PRESIDENTS BLOG – March 2015

March has arrived, Day Light Savings Time started and the snow in Winterset is finally melting. Looks like the weather has finally turned for the better and warm temps are here to stay. Time to get outdoors and enjoy! With that in mind, don’t forget to get back to Winterset this year if you are far away. Your classmates who live in Winterset would really like to bond once again and show you the changes in your “home town.”

The latest issue of the Husky was sent out a couple of weeks ago via e-mail and postal service. Once again, Carol Bassett, and our writers, have provided a newsletter that really should be up for an award! Isn’t it great to be part of an Alumni organization that has such a great newsletter with articles for all to enjoy. If you see or talk with Carol, please give her the praise she deserves for her editorship.

Your Board will be looking into a project for the schools and discuss ideas at our next board meeting in April. After a project has been selected, I will inform you as to the project and funding needed, if any. As an Alumni Association of the Winterset School District, we want to keep working for and with the District to help with projects and let them know that WHS Alumni are proud to remain a viable asset for the students, District, and community.

If you are having a class reunion this year, be sure to get current addresses from Billie Jo at the Administration Office and also let her know of classmates addresses which need to be updated. Your help will enable the Alumni Association to be current for mailings and contact information for alumni.

Until next month please remember to keep in contact with classmates, plan your next class reunion, support WHS, remember to renew membership and remain active. If you are currently not a member, please consider joining. You can go the our website at www.wintersetalumni.org and sign up for membership.

President’s Blog, February 2015

Welcome back to my Presidents’ blog. It is still cold with snow on the ground in Winterset, however, we got through the January snowstorm which left about 14 inches of snow for us to scoop and remove from driveways and walkways. I guess the old saying that if you live in Iowa just wait and the weather will change in a few minutes—well—that happened. There were individuals playing golf at the Lakeview Country Club in January and a few days later we got blasted with snow and cold. We are looking forward to warmer weather and signs of spring arriving sooner than later.

Your alumni board met in January and decided to move forward with a project for the school district. If you recall, the last project was a new trophy case for the High School. Our new project has not been decided as of this writing so if anyone has an idea, please contact a board member. We are thinking something that is not too costly but will be appreciated by the district and students. So let us know of an idea!

Don’t forget to check out the new alumni web site at www.wintersetalumni.org. Your web master has revamped the web site and it is awesome. The site has pictures, information about your association and contact information about current dues and class reunions. Use it to keep up to date.

The next Husky will also be sent this month and hopefully more members have opted to receive it via email. Costs of publication has went down and if more members sign up for email copies, the costs can keep going down and your dues can be used for other venues such as a project for the school district.

Until next month please remember to keep in contact with classmates, plan your next class reunion, support WHS, remember to renew membership and remain active.

President’s Blog, January 2015

Welcome to 2015 from the Winterset Alumni board members. Isn’t it wonderful to be WHS alumni looking forward to happenings for this year for your school, classmates and your family. Your alumni association works diligently to provide you with newsletters, events and contact information for class reunions. With that in mind, I want to update you on a few items of interest to alumni concerning web sites and membership renewals.

The very first concern deals with a website that is not affiliated with the WHS Alumni Association. We have been told that this website has asked (some of) its members to upgrade to a Life membership to access everything. For a fee. If you receive an inquiry from this site, please ignore and delete from your computer. Carol Basset, the Husky Editor has previously informed members in a past Husky Newsletter about this website, but it is now time to remind you not to go to this website. The site is www.alumniclass.com/winterset. This site is bogus!!!

The only official web site for alumni to use is www.wintersetalumni.org. This site provides you with updated information about our organization and contact information for membership. You can also contact Billi Jo Akers at bakers@winterset.k12.ia.us for membership information. Dues payments can be mailed to: WHS Alumni Association PO Box 30 Winterset, IA 50273.

The next newsletter will be mailed out in February and I hope that more alumni choose to accept it via email. This will help in production costs and mailing costs. Responses back from current alumni choosing this method has been very positive, so please consider this method. We had over 400 members go email for the December issue and 850 for postal mailings. It would be great if we could be at least 50/50 for the February issue. Please consider this possibility!
Until next month please remember to keep in contact with classmates, plan your next class reunion, support WHS and remain active.
