President’s Blog, December 2015

It is the most wonderful time of the year with family and friends gathering to celebrate Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Thinking back to our younger days, especially being away from academics for a couple of weeks during the holiday seasons, wasn’t it a special time for each of us. Now for many of us with our own families we can create special memories for this time of the year. I want to wish each of the WHS alumni a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The winter issue of the Husky has been sent out to Alumni and once again the writers and editor have compiled wonderful stories and pictures for you to enjoy. If you ever have the opportunity to thank these individuals, please do so. They are the individuals who strive to keep you informed and treat you to excellent stories about WHS Alumni. We have an awesome Alumni Association, and members constantly inform me about our positive Alumni Newsletter. So please let those responsible for the Husky know you appreciate their efforts for you.

Until my next blog, remember to keep in contact with classmates, plan your next class reunion, support WHS, renew your membership and remain active. If you are currently not a member, please consider joining. You can go to our website at www.wintersetalumni.org and sign up as well as find out about the Association.

A continuing item of importance to alumni is please only use the web site that is for our association. There is a site that some have gotten on which says it is the Winterset Alumni site. This is incorrect so please do not sign up for their products or membership. This email address is www.alumniclass.com/winterset. Please avoid this site.

Awesome!!! This is the word to describe the alumni activities during the Bridge Festival this year. Many alumni stopped in the Alumni Hospitality room located at the Farmers & Merchants Community Room located just off the square. This is the place for alumni to take a break during the Bridge Festival for a beverage or snack and relax before heading back to the activities around the square. This year the oldest alumni who signed in graduated in 1947 and the youngest graduated in 2013.

The All Class/School reunion at the Jackson Building was a huge success. Your Alumni Board planned, organized and worked this reunion for all WHS alumni with expectations for a great turnout. We were not disappointed! Alumni in attendance renewed friendships, enjoyed visiting with classmates, relaxing with other alumni, taking photos of classmates and just having a good time. The location of the Jackson Building on the Fair Grounds has blossomed into a positive event thanks to the anonymous donator who pays the rental fee for the Alumni Association. This is a great location for all alumni to visit with others and relax.

The food, once again, was catered by Jo Agan and was the usual “hit” with alumni. Linda Kelly, your Board Secretary, greeted alumni at the membership renewal table and many joined and/or renewed their membership for the year. Alumni membership is very important to keep up the web site, to offset printing costs of the Husky and bring new ideas to your organization. Carol Basset, Husky Editor, once again was the best photographer at the reunion. She took pictures of different classes in attendance, small group photos and shots of those enjoying the event. Next year there are plans to have a specific location for photos to be taken of alumni, classes in attendance and your friends.

All in all, this was a wonderful All Class/School reunion and your Alumni Board looks forward to next year (2016) during the Bridge Festival to meet and greet alumni. Thanks for making this event successful with your attendance.

President’s Blog, October 2015

Your alumni board is gearing up for the Bridge Festival weekend and look forward to seeing you at one of our venues for the weekend. This year the dates are Saturday/Sunday October 10th and 11th. Reminder to alumni to stop at the Farmer’s and Merchants Bank Community room on Saturday from 1-4 for the Alumni Welcome Center where you can rest and meet other alumni at the Festival.

The largest Alumni function will be the All Class Reunion at the Jackson Building Saturday October 10th from 5-9pm. Food and drink will be provided. Free-will donations appreciated. This is a perfect opportunity to visit with members from your graduating class and reminisce about your high school days. In addition, past teachers may be in attendance to visit with as well as friends from other classes who were not in your graduating class. So come out for an evening of renewing friendships and relaxing with other alumni. This year there will be locations available in the building for group pictures to be taken-so don’t forget a camera or cell phone. We were going to have an old time photo booth, however, due to some technical glitches it did not work out, perhaps next year.

I read in the latest issue of the Husky that many class reunions are being planned for the Bridge Festival weekend. It is wonderful to have so many alumni coming back that weekend. Class reunions include the classes of 1950, 1955, 1960, 1965, 1970, 1990. Hoping members of these classes find time to join other alumni at the All Class Reunion as well.

Until next month please remember to keep in contact with classmates, plan your next class reunion, support WHS, remember to renew membership and remain active. If you are currently not a member, please consider joining. You can go to our website at www.wintersetalumni.org and sign up for membership as well as finding out about the Association.
