President’s Blog, June 2015

Renewal time! Yes, June is the month that membership renewal forms go out to alumni who are current members. If you are not a life member, your renewal would be an excellent opportunity to do so at a reasonable cost. When you renew membership this affords you four yearly issues of the Alumni Newsletter (The Husky) which includes other alumni information about class reunions and web site updates.

Last month the John Wayne Birthplace Museum opened its doors to the public and attendance has been great, so when you are in Winterset for any activities (whether it be a class reunion, family gathering or Bridge Festival) consider a visit to the museum. You will not be disappointed.

The next issue of the Husky comes out in September and our editor, Carol Basset, indicates there might be some nostalgia concerning the Bridge Festival which is held in October. Bridge Festival weekend is also our annual Alumni Reunion—plan to attend if possible. It is a great time to renew friendships with classmates and other WHS Alumni.

Until next month please remember to keep in contact with classmates, plan your next class reunion, support WHS, remember to renew membership and remain active. If you are currently not a member, please consider joining. You can go to our website at www.wintersetalumni.org and sign up for membership as well as finding out about the Association.

A final item of importance to alumni is please only use the web site that is for our alumni association. There is a site that some have gotten on which says it is the Winterset Alumni site. This is incorrect so please do not sign up for their products or membership. Their email address is www.alumniclass.com/winterset. Please avoid this site.

President’s Blog, May 2015

Welcome alumni and friends, hope this finds you in good spirits and enjoying this month. May is a very busy month for many of you with Mothers’ Day, Graduations and Memorial Day. I want to thank all of you who are a Mother since you have many responsibilities to your children and they will be honoring you for your role in their lives.
Graduation time is soon upon you with children or grandchildren receiving a high school or college diploma. As they embark on their new direction in life please remember to keep a place in their heart and be active alumni for their school. If possible you could provide them with a graduation gift of a membership to the Winterset Alumni Association. That would be a gift that keeps on giving.

Memorial Day when cities and towns show support to Military Veterans, keep in mind your classmates who served. Reach out to them and thank them for their service. This thought makes me think about your next class reunion. Classmates who served deserve a special recognition at that time. Maybe it is possible to present them with a Quilt of Valor. There are quite a few organizations that would make a quilt for them which you can present. Just a thought, think about honoring those classmates.
Until next month please remember to keep in contact with classmates, plan your next class reunion, support WHS, remember to renew membership and remain active. If you are currently not a member, please consider joining. You can go to our website at www.wintersetalumni.org and sign up for membership as well as finding out about the Association.

A final item of importance to alumni is please only go the web site that is for our alumni association. There is a site out of Washington that some [of our alumni] have gotten on which says it is the Winterset Alumni site. This is incorrect so please do not sign up for their products or membership. Their web address is www.alumniclass.com/winterset. Please avoid this site.

President’s Blog, April 2015

Welcome to the April “BLOG.” I hope you are enjoying the monthly comments about your alumni association, highlights of Winterset as well as updated calendar of events for the association. This month your board will be having an appreciation dinner to thank those who help get the Husky to members throughout the year. This includes editing, printing, sorting, folding, stuffing envelopes, and mailing out copies to those alumni who do not get the Husky via e-mail. A big THANK YOU from me to these volunteers!
Those of you who do not live close to Winterset but plan to visit will notice some changes to the community. Hy-Vee has opened and is located where the Gold Buffet/Gold Star Lanes just to be, a new motel is being built on the bypass, the John Wayne Museum will be opening in May, hanging flower baskets will soon adorn the square, and there is even talk about a bike trail to Cedar Lake. Remember that Winterset has much to offer returning alumni to see and do, so please return sometime this year.
The Alumni Board will soon begin planning the All School Reunion to be held in October during the Bridge Festival. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to renew friendships and reconnect with classmates. Look for more details in upcoming blogs.
If you are having a class reunion this year, be sure to get current addresses from Billie Jo at the Administration Office (515-462-2718) and also let her know of classmates addresses which need to be updated. Your help will enable the Alumni Association to be current for mailings and contact information for alumni.
Until next month please remember to keep in contact with classmates, plan your next class reunion, support WHS, remember to renew membership and remain active. If you are currently not a member, please consider joining. You can go to our website at www.wintersetalumni.org and sign up for membership as well as finding out about the Association.
