President’s Blog: October, 2014

Guess what time of the year it is! If you guessed correctly then hopefully you will be attending the Madison County Bridge Festival Saturday /Sunday October 11th and 12th. Once again it is a wonderful time of the year to be in Winterset enjoying the fall foliage as well as meeting up with friends and other alumni. If you did not know, 2014 will be the 45th Bridge Festival. My how time flies—how many remember the very first festival with most activities around the square. Now the activities have expanded to the Historical Complex, John Wayne’s birthplace, Tours of Covered Bridges, activities in Monumental Park and the City Park as well as many other locations. Also don’t forget the Parade on Sunday the 12th. Mr. Ken Bassett will be the Parade Marshall which is an honor for all those who know Mr. Bassett and the outstanding ambassador he continues to be for WHS and Winterset.

This year the Alumni Association has also made a change for the All School Reunion which is usually held at the Fire Station. We will hold the Reunion at the Jackson Building Saturday evening from 5-9pm. The Jackson Building is located on the County Fair Grounds and will provide a larger facility for alumni and friends to gather. As always, Jo Agan, will again provide delicious food for you to enjoy. The Association Board will be providing beverages. We only ask for a donation to help offset the costs to your Association. While attending don’t forget to renew your membership if you have not already done so or join if you are not currently a member. Cost is minimal for annual dues or you could become a life member.

One event that remains the same for Alumni is the Hospitality room on Saturday located at the Farmer’s and Merchants Bank Community room just off the square. It is open from 1-4pm and is a great location to rest and recover from your many trips around the square and other locations.
I would like to see many alumni in Winterset on the Bridge Festival weekend and hope to be able to meet and talk with most of you at the All School Reunion. See you then!!!

Until next month please remember to keep in contact with classmates, plan your next class reunion, support WHS and remain active.
