President’s Blog, February, 2024

Winter is slowly coming to an end in Winterset. January saw over twenty-eight inches of snow and many days of BRRR temperatures. I am looking forward to spring arriving and more activities happening in our area. Updates from the Association are as follows.

The next Husky will be sent out this summer with some remarkably interesting articles. RAGBRAI will have an overnight stay in Winterset on Tuesday July 23. The Old High School is transforming into an apartment complex (might be ready this summer). Madison Square is being renovated into apartments. The Winterset Park & Recreation Department is moving forward with a community field house located near the soccer fields on east Court. The golf course club house has been demolished and a new one is being built. Your alumni association donated funds to the Band Boosters for new Band Uniforms with the donation from the David Woodley memorial.

Reminder: The All Class Reunion will be in October at the Jackson Building during Covered Bridge Festival. Reunion will be Saturday, October 12th from 5-8:30 pm. Mark your calendars to attend this annual function for all WHS Alumni.

If you are interested in keeping your Association active and growing, please consider becoming a board member. We need some younger Alumni on the board. Current officers are:

Rod Beem – President, Jim Smith – Vice President, Linda Kelly – Secretary, Connie Miller – Treasurer, and Carol Bassett-Husky Editor. Other board members are Gary Binns, Randy Henry, Alyssa Tadlock, Judy Trask, and Jim Van Werden. Additional personnel who help the Association are Julie Feirer – Website Manager and Billi Jo Hartman – WHS Staff Liaison.

Please remember to stay connected with classmates, plan your next class reunion, support WHS, renew your membership and remain active. If you are currently not a member, please consider joining. You can go to our website at www.wintersetalumni.org and sign up as well as find out about your Alumni Association.

Until next time, remember: ONCE A HUSKY, ALWAYS A HUSKY.

WE ARE BACK

The All Class Reunion will be back at the Jackson Building this year. The date is Saturday, October 14th during the Bridge Festival. Time for the reunion will be from 5:00pm until 8:30pm. Food once again will be provided by Jo Agan. Time for serving begins at 5:30 until food is finished.

The All Class Reunion is a special time for alumni to see classmates, friends and socialize. Besides food, we will provide beverages and other snacks. All this for a free will offering.

Your Alumni Association will also provide help in renewing your membership or signing up for new membership. Carol Bassett will once again be taking pictures of your class members in attendance.

If your class is having a reunion over Bridge Festival, take time to attend the All Class Reunion as well as other activities you have planned. A great time to visit with other alumni who were attending WHS the same time as your classmates.

SEE YOU OCTOBER 14TH FOR THE ALL CLASS REUNION.

Please remember to keep in contact with classmates, plan your next class reunion, support WHS, renew your membership and remain active.   If you are currently not a member, please consider joining.  You can go to our website at www.wintersetalumni.org and sign up as well as find out about the Association.

Until next time, remember: ONCE A HUSKY, ALWAYS A HUSKY.

President’s Blog, July 2022

Summer has arrived and the Association wants to provide Alumni with a brief update.  WHS Softball and Baseball is nearing the end of the season with success in wins and standings.  Both teams soon will be playing in regional games to determine heading to State tournaments. If you played Softball or Baseball, you know the excitement of possibly getting to State.

RoxAnn Rhoads, a charter member of the Alumni Association since 1988, has resigned from the Board to be able to spend more time with grandchildren and traveling. While on the Board, RoxAnn held positions of Secretary, Treasurer and Husky Editor. When you see or contact her, please thank her for all she has done for your Association.

The All Class Reunion held during the Bridge Festival will have a new venue location this year. The Reunion will be held at the Catholic Church due to a scheduling conflict at the Jackson Building for that weekend. We will be back to the Jackson Building in 2023.  More information about the All Class Reunion will be in your September Issue of the Husky.

Please remember to keep in contact with classmates, plan your next class reunion, support WHS, renew your membership and remain active. If you are currently not a member, please consider joining. You can go to our website at www.wintersetalumni.org and sign up as well as find out about the Association.
